Watford Football Club, located in Hertfordshire, England, is a professional football club that competes in the EFL Championship, the second division of English football. The club's roots trace back to 1881 when it was initially established as Watford Rovers. However, it officially became Watford Football Club in 1898. Under the management of Harry Kent, Watford achieved success as the champions of the Southern League in the 1914-1915 season. Subsequently, in 1920, they joined the Football League. During their early years, Watford played at various stadiums, including the present-day West Herts Sports Club, before settling at Vicarage Road in 1922. Throughout their history, Watford has shared a fierce rivalry with Luton Town, a nearby club. A significant period for the club was Graham Taylor's tenure as manager from 1977 to 1987, during which Watford rose from the fourth tier to the top division. In the 1982-1983 season, the team finished as runners-up in the First Division, participated in the UEFA Cup in 1983-1984, and reached the final of the FA Cup in 1984. However, after Taylor's departure, Watford experienced a decline from 1987 to 1997. Taylor returned as manager and successfully guided the team to consecutive promotions from the renamed Second Division to the Premier League, where they competed for one season in 1999-2000. Under Aidy Boothroyd's management, Watford returned to the Premier League in 2006-2007 and had another stint from 2015 to 2020. During this period, they reached the final of the FA Cup in 2019, but unfortunately suffered a record-equalling 6-0 defeat. After spending only one season in the Championship, Watford earned promotion back to the Premier League in April 2021. However, they were subsequently relegated back to the Championship in May 2022.
